The Great Mail Fail

Imagine it…

It’s your child’s 1st birthday and your friends and family come out in throngs to celebrate the BIG day. At the end of the party, you have gifts coming out of your ears, you’re sticky with cake residue from head to toe and you cannot find your child under the mountains of wrapping paper. But, you’ve carefully and diligently recorded each gift they received, in a nicely organized journal, for ease in writing thank you cards later. You did it, it’s a mom win!

You sit down in the days to come to start crafting beautifully written and personalized thank you cards to each of your guests:

“Dear Grandma Gertrude,

Thank you so much for the purple velvet pony dress and matching pony shoes! She’ll get so many compliments and look so darn cute in it, when it fits in a few years. How do you come up with these great gift ideas? You’re a smart cookie, Grandma!

Thanks for celebrating with us!”

One by one, you cross the names off the list and ready the cards for the mailbox. Then, you get a little bit distracted by planning for your next trip:

Swimsuit – Check!

Sunscreen – Check!

Swim Diapers? Oh, SHOOT! I guess I’m going to Target.

Before you know it, you’re in the full blown travel mode of packing, organizing and making arrangements and long gone are the thoughts of those perfectly prepared thank you cards. That is, until you’re jolted awake in a hotel room 2,500 miles away from home thinking, SHOOT, I never sent the cards! But the thought leaves your mind as quickly as it entered and you’re back to sleep in no time.

Flash forward…

It’s been TWO MONTHS since the party and you stumble upon this:

Cards1

Your travel plans got in your way and got the best of you. So, now what? Do you just throw this pile in the trash because it disgracefully late to be sending them? Not a chance! You put on your mom shame pants and get those cards in the mail, like this:

Cards2

Just add a little commentary to the back of the cards! Genius!

“Better late than never, right?”

“Latest thank you in history, sorry!”

“Yup, here it is a thank you from two months ago!” #FAIL

My advice is embrace, own it, laugh about it and move on. Grandma Gertrude will be pleased as a peach to get your card, even if it is a mere two months late.

Ever experienced a Great Mail Fail of your own? I can’t wait to hear about it!
